A Diabetics Tale - How I Controlled My Weight and Blood Sugars Through Diet

by Lisa Smith

First time in 1994, second time 1997. Forever 1999. That was the start of my disease. It started with the pregnancies of my two daughters and then stayed with me. I have diabetes. I was very scared at first with learning all the effects this foreign to me disease would have on my body and my lifestyle. I had never known anyone with diabetes and I was the first in my family to develop it. Insulin was the only controllable medication for my disease. Diet was not going to fix it alone. I became angry, why did I have to go through this. Why was I the chosen one. Soon I came to realize that I was chosen to deal with the lifestyle and effects that go along with having diabetes because I was going to be able to handle it. I would be able to conquer it, take control of it so to speak. And I did…for a few months. Due to the medications I was taking and not understanding what food I should and should not eat the weight started staying on. I was confused. How did you count carbohydrates, fibre, sodium and how did you read labels on food products to make sure you werent getting too much of the bad stuff and enough of the good things in your diet. It was overwhelming. I had two small children, working full time and I was cooking two separate meals all the time. One for me and a different one for them. It was hectic to say the least. I needed to ensure I ate the right things and needed to keep my sugars under control. I learned a lot through research, trial and error. My sugars were doing okay - but still were not where they should be to maintain healthy levels. I bought diabetic cook books and tried different recipes - but was never really able to find a diet plan that I could follow and that my family would enjoy as well. I wanted a meal plan that was already laid out for me and had the food that my family and I liked. I needed to find someone, some miracle that would inspire me to eat better and control my sugars. I found it. I couldnt believe what I was reading. What I had been needing for so long - the inspiration I was searching for. There it was. Right in front of me. I started seeing the choices I was going to be given. They were going to create a menu plan based on the food I liked, why I needed the menu plan (there was a plan for everyone) - mine was based on a low carbohydrate meal plan for controllability of my sugar levels - and best of all it prepared a shopping list for me to print off based on the menu choices. This cant be true I thought. There is no way someone has made my life this simple. My 3 meals a day - as simple or gourmet as I wanted - were there in black and white for me - a week at a time. I signed up without hesitation, as the membership fee was minimal for what you received - menu plans - forums - support - shopping lists - etc. My sugar levels dropped to the healthiest levels they had ever been when I started following the menu plan. I lost weight as well - but my main concern for my health was my diabetes. I was now definitely handling my disease. I was in control of my health. There were menu plans for people who are overweight, underweight, at a healthy weight and want to maintain their health. There literally is a menu plan for anyone. I truly believe in this as I am living proof that it really can benefit you. Here is where you can get access to your own copy of the Anne Collins diet plan I used. http://instanthelp4u.com/ac.aspx?tid=AC
